hay guys this is my first post i don't really use forums much but i never had a coach so i figured you guys would be the best people to ask.
so i was driving home with the misses when i see this **** beating his wife, i spring out the car yell "what the **** do you think your doing ****" and i'm sprinting towards him
i notice something in his hands,(this is at night so i couldn't see to great) as he is turning around to me, he is winding up i slowed down thinking what the **** does he have.
Then i noticed he had a big machete or some kind of big knife/sword idk any way he is yelling at me saying he is gonna stab me, im yelling at him while keeping my distance, signaling
for his wife to move i was trying figure out a way to get her behind me but she ended up getting in to her car and driving off ,he was screaming "go fucking back home" to her
then he was trying tp get close i ended up backing off and leaving. so my question is did i handle that well i know i'm an idiot i didn't get the plate number of car and that letting
him go was dumb any way the misses called the cops while i was out dealing with it so i had to wait when i got home for them to call, they only just got there 20 mins ago and they were
called like 2 hours before hand and i've been thinking and thinking about it i feel like i should have tried to take him down but i have no experience with knife fighting and its not like im a pro boxer either. so one more
question? what would you guys recommend for a knife martial art to learn , i was thinking silat but i don't know enough about any to get a scope of it. sorry for the bad formatting
in tired but i couldn't stop thinking about it seemed like the best way to get it off my mind.

Orange County Schools maybe Corona

Hello,

I checked out the previous threads on good Orange County schools. The newest post seemed to be about 8 years old. I figure a lot can change in that time. So, I was wondering if there was any new information out there. I'm in East Anaheim so Corona is easier to get to than Irvine during the day. If I was a single guy I would mind driving hours every day, but real life commitments to family means closer to home is better.

I'm going to check out a couple from the previous thread

Stand up + ground is my desire. I'm a beginner and I'm looking for conditioning and coordination.

I saw the Tim Cartmell school has morphed into Ace Jiu Jitsu http://www.acejiujitsu.com/ in Fountain Valley. There are a couple of others I'm going to check out on my own but there's no substitute for a personal recommendation.

Thank you in advance!

Training in Thailand

I've been thinking of saving up to go and train in Thailand for 3 months during my gap year and have been looking at a couple of gyms (Tiger, Dragon, Sinbi etc.). All of them seem to have really polarised reviews, with some visitors saying "coaches are great, I improved loads" and others saying "coaches didn't help anyone and I saw some beginners who didn't improve at all". I was planning to go to Phuket and try some different gyms out before I paid for the 3 months (apparently it's cheaper to find accommodation outside your camp as well), but I wondered if anyone here had trained in Thailand and had any recommendations or tips.

What shows have you binge-watched?

We live in the miraculous age of on-demand television. I'm curious what television series people do or have binge-watch(ed). By binging, I mean you sit and watch multiple episodes back to back (to back to back to back...) For my part, off the top of my head, in no particular order:

Oz
Lost
24
Highlander
Scrubs
Buffy
Angel
Firefly
House
ER
Breaking Bad
Sherlock
Doctor Who (my faves, in order, Tom Baker, Chris Eccleston, Peter Davison)
Mythbusters
Dirty Jobs
Deadliest Catch
Star Treks ("o", TNG, Voyager, DS9, Enterprise)
South Park
BSG (all 3 series, though the recent one is my favorite)
Caprica
Futurama
Heroes (original seriers; tried the reboot, didn't care for it)
HHGG
Millennium
X-Files
Max Headroom
Continuum

New York (finally) Legalises MMA

Quote:

It’s finally happened: Nearly 20 years after the state of New York banned mixed martial arts, the State Assembly voted today to approve a bill legalizing the sport, joining the State Senate and Governor Andrew Cuomo and the other 49 states in the union in the 21st century. After three hours of heated debate the Assembly voted 113-25 in favor of the bill, which had previously been approved by the Senate. The MMA bill now goes to Cuomo’s desk, and seeing as how the governor has already expressed his support for the bill, and even included the regulation of MMA in his proposed 2016 budget, his signature seems like a foregone conclusion. Under state guidelines, the MMA law will go into effect 120 days after Governor Cuomo signs the bill.

I have to say, some of the reasons for the against votes are brilliant(ly terrible)!

Benefits of massage?

Oh so as someone whose got god awful flexibility and retains tension like a sponge, I've recently been having problems throwing punches and kicks, been generally slower across all my movements and sore a lot. I went for a massage today just to chill out for once (combination of anxiety issues and a sitting job that doesn't help) and I had more than 40 muscle knots in my back and neck in total. Since getting out I feel a lot better and I was wondering if anyone incorporates this into their routine?

The cops are really fucking stupid to react that way once they found out that what they are doing is being recorded.

Ok, so are there any posters who have an art or different style of the art they are currently training that they wish they could train? If so, why? And if there is an art you want to train, why aren't you training it?

Gather around Bullies and allow me to tell you the tale of the Anti-Grappler

Gather around Bullies and allow me to tell you a tale, for what I am about to tell you still happens in the world of Martial Arts today. No, don't check your calendars, it is 2016, and not 1992. You are reading this on your Smartphone and not your dial up connection from AOL.

You see bullies, nowadays in concert with the local U.S. Marine Unit we run a MMA club 2 days a week. Tuesday and Friday. I instruct on Friday without incident for many a month now and the Unit Commander teaches on Tuesdays. However, on this fateful Tuesday, the Unit Commander was not present for he was away. In his stead a young Stgt took over the club and taught the crew. While I am normally not present on a Tuesday, this week I made an effort to join the Tuesday crew and this is where the fun begins.

The evening started as expected, the young Stgt attempted to teach a basic takedown and I assisted him with the details as it was not my intention to teach the class but to simply visit so I can duck out early and proceed to my own training. However, after the takedown, a man appears among the students, 5'9", 180lbs of soft gooey man flesh. You see this man is the local Tae Kwon Do instructor, who also offers free Escrima Lessons to the Marine Unit. He takes command of the class, for which I find amusing, as he doesn't know I am the other instructor for this club, and the Unit Commander is missing. He said he will now teach a technique, knowing his background, I assume will be some sort of striking combo, so I allow it to proceed. Oh what a mistake I made!

For this man, seeing the MMA club grappling he must instruct us the mysterious way of the Anti-Grappling! He asked the young Stgt take hold his leg as one was going to perform a Single Leg Takedown. Our TKD instructor, then goes into a mix between a lunge and a squat, could this be the legendary TKD front stance? Then, which great power and no contact he strikes the back of the neck or at least pretends to with a thundering KIAI! I quickly check my phone to ensure I have not time traveled back into the 90s, as I was concerned. Why in the era of MMA would anyone think this would work?

At the point, I must act! You see my rashguard saids "Jiu Jitsu vs The World" and "The World" was standing in front me teaching Anti-Grappling in a school I help run. So I replace the Stgt in the Single Leg position and say, "Please, try this again." For what happens next, I assume you all know, and our fearless TKD warrior ends up on his butt as his vicious neck strike could not stand "the running of the pipe." Surprised, he asked to try again, but alas the same result befell him. Frustrated with with his ego bruised, he stands again and informs me "but I got you!" To which I respond, "This isn't pretend, if you want to hit me, fucking hit me, stop me from taking you down." On this third attempt, the result was the same, but this time, he adds a reverse punch from his back! At this point, I inform him, I can fake punch you and he needs to stop because from my top position "I can fucking murder you." But the ego is fragile and with all his experience, he has probably never been reality checked so hard before, you see in his world Martial Artists respect each other and don't challenge each other's techniques and fighting is theory. We go for a fourth time, and yet again he is on his back, for this pipe running is just too much for his technique and he has no balance. But his time, after going to the ground, he has a secret weapon, the lustrous Axe Kick, from his back. The evasion was quick as I was still on my feet, and the guard pass quicker. Now with my Knee on his Belly, our Anti-Grappler was defeated and I resolve to instructing the rest of the class.

But you see the story is not over, at the end of class, we are doing rounds, winner stays in and my next opponent in our TKD instructor. I end this quickly, throwing him into a basic submission in the first 5 seconds forcing him to raise his hand and tap on my leg several times to admit defeat. But you see, this was again too much for our TKD instructor to be defeated so quickly. As I start to disengage to find the next partner, the TKD instructor jumps on my foot, you see he saw an opening! And puts me in a straight ankle lock, I look at him puzzled as I thought the round was over, but I see his face, teeth gritted, muscle flexed with exertion, for he is trying to break my ankle. The technique though, was flawed as there was no pain in the joint and his feet were exposed for a counter. I wrap up a quick toe hold forcing him to raise his hand and tap on my leg several times to admit defeat again. When I let go I look at him and he walks away.

So Bullies, I hope you enjoyed this tale of Bullshido and know when you hear the wind howl, someone might be out there Anti-Grappling.

Fantasy self defense school!

If you could design your own self defense curriculum, what would it look like?
Would it be for average Joes and Janes? What would the facilities be like?
What would you teach? What would your goals be? How would you define success at your school?
Would your curriculum be solely krotch-ate and eye poking? Or maybe the rock, paper scissors approach: "sorry, Glock trumps knife, Bang, I win!"
Let's pretend you have a huge but not unlimited budget (ie nice building and great instructors, but no weekends with the SAS).

Wanenmacher's Gun Show will be on the 3rd and 4th of next month(4,200 tables covering 11 acre. There will be very non-knife or firearm related vendors. I am thinking maybe a Ruger mlni-14 or a Stag Arm L/H SAR 14. Pleasedo not suggest any full autos. What would want to own or think I should add to my collection? Joe

Black Dragon 18 Hands -- No longer practiced by the People's Armed Police.

Because this is related to Chinese security training, and the Heilongjiang Armed Police Corps is referenced in the text, I put it in the The Armory portion of the Forum.

http://8595.yang.blog.163.com/blog/s...0628101312266/

It is an interesting link that led to several hours of using on-line translation pages and playing around with key words to narrow subject headings for searches. The topic of the blog page was Black Dragon 18 Hands. It is supposedly deadly -- and scanned images of the form are provided by the blog poster who admits to wanting to practice it, but for health benefits.

The images looked familiar, and I actually found originals of the images, but I don't have the ability to read the document in hard copy. This required finding the information in soft copy so that on-line translation software could be used. The original images are in a three volume set of manuals for private security guard training.

]1[/h]The usual references to being developed by a service member, but the movements are no longer allowed to be used by service members or armed policemen -- they are too deadly to use. However, I doubt that. It sounds like something that was developed in-house as a sideline effort by an officer in the 1970s and 1980s and that it gained some fame by rumor and not by official induction into the training plan. By 1997, the deadly Black Dragon 18 Hands form ends up in the Security Guards Fight Series (three volumes).

The Chinese character search brought up several pages referencing this powerful (er.. deadly) training. And, they refer to esoteric training methods to develop chi and lethality. It simply shows the mysterious is always a selling option for instructors.

The three volume set was developed during the period of China's modernization of the private security industry. The material is almost 20 years old, and China has changed dramatically. The private security industry is developing and professionalizing for domestic and international operations, as has the private security industry in Europe and North America. The books, and their content, reflect a transitional period. But, that fact that the Black Dragon 18 Hands keeps showing up reflects that the mystical walks with martial arts training, not matter what continent people come from. People keep looking for power.
